ANIMAL COMMUNICATION - A SHORT SUMMARY Communicating with animals is something we all do when we spend time with them. How do we do that? Well, we communicate our intentions, our thoughts, our feelings and emotions whether we intend to, or not! Animals are masters at picking up on these subtle things because their very lives and their success through evolution has made this ability essential. As human beings we have evolved, in general, with a slightly different emphasis. That emphasis tends to be towards material and physical things like our jobs, our living conditions, our family connections and our possessions, to name but a few. As a result, our subtle ability to be aware of the thoughts of our animal companions has been relegated to a less-important position in our personal development. Of course we understand that there are many ways to communicate with animals. For instance we could say that many training techniques are a way of communicating with them and getting across our intentions. Another way we might think of animal communication could be by observing animals together when we see the many ways they communicate with each other, but when we use the term ‘animal communication’ in our particular context, it actually refers to communicating with an animal through thought. Animal communication happens in a way not usually discernible visually. It happens through the exchange of thoughts, feelings and emotions. This gives us the wonderful opportunity to help and understand certain situations concerning our animals about which we might otherwise be unaware. WHAT REASONS MIGHT ONE HAVE FOR USING ANIMAL COMMUNICATION? There are so many reasons why people turn to animal communication and below are just a few: It can offer an opportunity to put certain questions to them, the answers to which might be of sincere interest to us. Often we might receive advice from the animal itself about how we could change things to do with their care, diet or environment that might really help them. Animal communication, as part of a consultation, can be used at times when a carer is concerned about the behaviour of their animal and would like to try to find out why it behaves in the way it does and what steps could be taken to help. It may also be helpful if the animal has changed it’s behaviour and certain things have become challenging. If an animal is lost, animal communication may possibly provide important clues as to why it went missing or even where it may be. Lost animals can sometimes give information about their environment which makes it easier to find them. Or they can be encouraged to find help or find their way home. When I first discovered animal communication I would definitely describe it as one of the best things that has ever happened in my life. The realisation that it was possible was absolutely a highlight. However, just like everything else we’d like to do well, it is necessary to apply oneself to learning about it and to practice in order to improve one’s level of skill and experience. There is often much to learn on any subject one would like to study and animal communication is no different. When you arrive at a time in your life where you understand that absolutely all life is connected, it is not so difficult to accept that life can and does communicate. Interestingly, scientists have recently made the discovery that trees in a wood communicate with each other and have carried out experiments that prove it. I watched an amazing programme on it. When I was a child I would have loved to have watched that programme and learned about such a fascinating thing, but it wasn’t mainstream knowledge then and the scientists hadn’t reached their factual or publishable conclusions at that time and so we didn’t know about it as children at that time. This is what often strikes me. We didn’t know, but it was still happening and had been since trees existed. There’s so much in nature that we don’t know, but it’s happening right there under our noses and we just haven’t discovered the majoroty of it yet. The intelligence is there, but we have not yet evolved ourselves enough to know it all. There are wonderful new ways unfolding about the way people go about keeping and training their animals. People have started to question the amount of dominant control that has long been accepted in many training techniques. As humans go on, it is right that we should question everything: How we treat ourselves and each other and all the other creatures, insects and plants that share our planet - and how we treat our planet too. It’s not too late for us to start listening. Animal communication is a step towards us starting to listen more and dictate less. Animals know so much when we start to listen to them. It is most humbling. Of course, all connections with animals are slightly different and some animals may choose not to communicate at all at the specific time we make our attempt (although most do)! Animal communications are not like a phone call where you can usually obtain the result you want. Sometimes an animal doesn’t want to be questioned. Sometimes an animal would rather not say what hurts, (especially if it’s likely to result in them not being able to do what they like doing!) and sometimes they are having time to themselves and that’s just what they want. They have as many reasons as we do for wanting to communicate or not! Information can come through from the animal in a variety of ways and one must stay very aware throughout the session in order to receive as accurately as possible whatever the animal may choose to give. For example, the animal may use visual clues (a little like showing a photograph or a video to someone with whom you want to share a holiday experience of the routes you’d taken or the places you’ve visited) to indicate an answer to the question “Are you willing to show me where you are at the moment please?” or “Would you like to show me some of the sights you passed when you left home?” This way you can perhaps see where an animal is or where they have been which is why it can often be useful with lost animals. It’s also possible that the animal may communicate feelings or an idea, like for instance how a particular part of their body is feeling coupled with a request to try a particular herb in their diet. Sometimes the animal may communicate how they think a particular course of action may help them. Animal communication may be done on site with the animal, or even from a good photograph that shows the face and the eyes. The important thing is knowing with certainty that, wherever the animal is, a connection through thought can be possible because all life itself is linked, so you don’t have to physically be there. In recent years many more people have come to know about animal communication and regularly turn to it to help them and their animals develop a greater understanding of the life they share whilst, at the same time, building a closer bond of trust and care.
